If you do not, the handle may interfere with the flow of coffee into the filter basket. Also note: using our permanent gold-tone filter will allow some fine coffee grounds to fall into the coffee carafe. Open Filter Door Place a #4 basket paper filter or Cuisinart's® commercial style permanent filter in the basket. g.
