This instruction book explains the use of the MV500 and MV500i camcorders. The main difference between these models is that the MV500i includes a DV Recording and Analog Line-in Recording function. Please note that illustrations and explanations in this instruction book refer mainly to the MV500 model.

Notes: · When using an external microphone, use a microphone cable not longer than 3 meters to avoid electromagnetic inerference. · Be careful when using long microphones as they may extend into the frame.
Wind screen
The camcorder has an automatic wind screen to prevent wind noise from interfering with the sound track. Make sure it's off when you want the microphone to be as sensitive as possible. Use the wind screen when recording in windy places such as the beach or near buildings.

To turn it on, open the menu and select VCR SET UP. Then select WIND SCREEN, set it to ON and close the menu.
· WS O is shown in the display when you turn the wind screen on. Notes: · The wind screen can be used for audio dubbing with the built-in microphone in PLAY (VCR) mode as well as recording (when AUDIO DUB. · The wind screen does not operate when an external microphone is connected to the MIC terminal.

This is useful when you want to include yourself in the picture when recording movies or still photographs.
Using the Full Range of Features

1. Press the self-timer button on the body of the camcorder or the SELF TIMER button on the wireless controller.
· SELF-T appears in the display. · To have the subject monitor recording, rotate the LCD panel 180° ( For movies 27).
2. Press the start/stop button.
· The camcorder starts to record after a 10-second countdown period (or after 2 seconds when you use the wireless controller). · SELF-T disappears from the display when recording begins.
3. Press a PHOTO button on the camcorder body or the wireless controller.
· The camcorder automatically adjusts the focus 2 seconds before the countdown is complete. The F mark flashes white then turns green after the focus and exposure are set. If you are using the wireless controller, the F mark starts flashing immediately after you press the PHOTO button.

· The camcorder takes the picture for approximately 6 seconds. · If you're in CAMERA mode, the camcorder returns to record pause mode after recording. Notes: · To cancel the self-timer before the countdown has begun, press the SELF TIMER button. · To cancel the self-timer once the countdown has begun, press the SELF TIMER button.

Ajusting AE Shift
By controlling the level of the automatic exposure (AE) function, you can lighten or darken the image slightly. This allows you to compensate for backlit, overexposed scenes.

Make sure the program selector is set to Q .
1. Press the selector dial in and select any recording program other than Spotlight, Sand & Snow or Night from the program menu. Turn the selector dial to choose your desired level.
· Levels are from 2 to +2, in 0. 25 intervals (excluding 1. 75 and +1. 75). Notes: · You cannot adjust the exposure without the e mark before AE in the display. · You cannot adjust the AE Shift when the camcorder is set to [ (Easy Recording), the Spotlight, the Sand & Snow or Night recording program.

Set the shutter speed manually to take stable shots of quickly moving subjects.
